Text from Dad: "Great family project when you visit, we can change Joe transmission and bitch about German engineering"
Ahhh, the good old days: Me and Dad working on stubborn cars and swearing profusely, and this time it's not even one of our own. So Oppo, how much blood/sweat/tears can I expect swapping a new 5spd trans into a 1999 Audi A4? Background: Joe already blew the motor and fuel pump. So much for a relaxing family visit while I'm between jobs!

I am dissapointed that the 'Joe Transmission' is not some kind of exotic doohicky your dad wanted you to help him test.

Once you pull the engine out it should be easy.

not bad at all, drop the exhaust, drop the driveshaft and it comes out pretty easy. 4-5 hours if you have a lift and a tranny jack.

And here I thought "Joe Transmission" was the auto-mechanic equivalent of Joe the Plumber (hey, remember that?)

My dad found out that I'm helping my brother change the radiator in his Pontiac this week. I got a text (from my mom, my dad doesn't "do" texting) asking me for "advice" on an intermittent electrical issue in the '07 Impala my dad is driving.
*sigh*

It's not that hard, What engine is it 1.8T or the 2.8. Hooking up the
If you've got any questions, feel free to ask. I've got a '97 5-Speed A4 with Quattro.

Here's a thread for a B5, but not like the one you described. If it's a 2.8, those are scary reliable for Audis.

That, if it's Auto-manual conversion which I'm unsure of.
